Islanders News: One more for the road

The Islanders are in a Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday pattern over the next couple of weeks as they finish their brief homestand with the Devils on Tuesday before a seven-game western road trip. That one starts with Nashville and Minnesota before crossing the border for Winnipeg and a full northwestern four-pack. But first, one more at home with […]

Islanders 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT): This kid’s incredible

Matthew Schaefer scored two highlight reel goals, including a tying goal and an overtime winner, as the Islanders came back and beat the Maple Leafs, 4-3, Saturday night on Long Island. Rumors of Auston Matthews’ demise have been greatly exaggerated, as the maligned Maple Leafs captain continued his tear with two goals*, but the Islanders’ […]

Craig Berube on Morgan Rielly’s -4 game vs. the Islanders: “Tonight was a tough one, but he’s played some really good hockey for us this year… I’m not worried about it”

Craig Berube addressed the media after his team’s 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders, which dropped the Maple Leafs’ record to 19-15-7. On the team’s performance: Going into the third period, I didn’t think we pushed enough. I thought we didn’t have the puck enough and sat back a little too much. We […] The post Craig Berube on Morgan Rielly’s -4 game vs. the Islanders: “Tonight was a tough one, but he’s played some really good hockey for us this year… I’m not worried about it” appe...

Islanders Gameday: Brother, can you spare more than two goals?

The Islanders host the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday night on Long Island with a couple more lineup updates. Marshall Warren has been returned to Bridgeport, which — along with yesterday’s practice — would seem to indicate another run of Adam Boqvist on his offhand on the third pair with Scott Mayfield. And Bo Horvat, as […]

Islanders Get Big Injury Update on Bo Horvat

The New York Islanders ' leading scorer is out once again. After spending 15 days out of the lineup in December, Bo Horvat returned for the last four games, but was injured again last night. He exited in the third period of Thursday's game against the Utah Mammoth. But the team is breathing a bit of a sigh of relief after the prognosis came in. It was not as bad as originally thought. Bo Horvat avoids the worst-case scenario. Out this week for sure, hopeful to be day-to-day after re-evaluation...

Mammoth 7, Islanders 2: Unhappy new year, injured Olympian

The New York Islanders started off their New Year afternoon with intent but could not beat Karel Vejmelka on 11 first-period shots, and then the game swiftly slipped away into a blowout 7-2 loss to the Utah Mammoth. In accordance with the prophecies, Islanders killer Dylan Guenther not only scored but absolutely torched the Isles […]

Islanders vs. Mammoth Gameday: New year, new Olympian

The year 2026 is upon us, Bo Horvat is an Olympian and something called the Utah Mammoth is in town to kick the new year off with a 3 p.m. EST start. Before the calendar flipped, the Islanders eked out a shootout win in Chicago in far-from-convincing performance against a injury-laden squad. Hopefully they’ve got […]

New York Islanders 2025 in Review: Mid-decade sea change

The calendar year 2025 for the New York Islanders comes to a close in a jarringly different state compared to one year ago. Instead of being a drifting, dull team guided by a GM that seemed…stuck in neutral, they are now a more entertaining (if risky) team, with new life, in the thick of a […]

The Chicago Blackhawks erased a two-goal deficit after the first to earn a point, but ultimately fell 3-2 in a shootout to the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. The Islanders opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game. After forcing a turnover, Simon Holmstrom dropped a centering pass to Calum Ritchie, who snapped a wrister past Spencer Knight to give New York an early 1-0 lead. Blackhawks vs Islanders — Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

So, the Blackhawks came out of the Christmas break with a thrilling win in Dallas and a dull thud at home against the Pittsburgh Penguins. That’s kinda the way things have gone this season, isn’t it? The good news for tonight is Nick Foligno is healthy and in the lineup and Ilya Mikheyev also returns from his absence to be with his family. We’re getting closer to a full Blackhawks lineup. The Blackhawks held only an optional morning skate today, so these are the new lines we saw at practi...

Say You, Say Me: Blackhawks vs. Islanders Preview

The Chicago Blackhawks close out the 2025 calendar year on home ice Tuesday night, hosting the New York Islanders as they look to finish the year on a stronger note. The Islanders come into this one sitting third in the Metropolitan Division by points percentage (.590), a spot that looks solid on paper but hardly comfortable in practice thanks to a crowded playoff picture. The Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres are right on their heels — the latter of which is on a nine-game winning stea...

Islanders Gameday News: Blackhawk town

The Islanders wake up still in second place in the Metro after the Capitals lost in regulation to Florida last night. They are in Chicago to try to rebound from the loss in Columbus and build some cushion in the ever-close Eastern standings — where Buffalo is now two points behind. After a promising but […]

Islanders Anxiety – Episode 353 – High Road Week

Mike and Dan look back at a week that was great for the Islanders until it wasn’t, and an annoying week ahead. With wins over the Devils and Rangers on either side of the Christmas break, the Islanders gave their fans a great holiday. Whether it was a surprise game-winning goal from Adam Pelech or […]

Blue Jackets 4 (EN), Islanders 2: Out of gas after Barzal ejected

Playing twice in less than 24 hours (great job, schedule makers), the Islanders had far from their best but nearly pulled out a point or two before falling late to the Blue Jackets in Columbus, 4-2. The Isles held a slim 2-1 lead till the final five minutes, when a fortunate deflection canceled several previous […]

Kiefer Sherwood Linked to New Team Not Previously on the Radar

Keifer Sherwood's days with the Vancouver Canucks are surely nearing an end. The pending unrestricted free agent has been linked to a number of different teams in trade rumors, including the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, NY Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens and others.  But we now have a new contending team linked to the gritty, physical power forward, a team that has not previously been discussed as having him on the radar. According to veteran NHL analyst Jesse Granger in Th...

Islanders Back-to-Back: Smurfs shutout, Sorokin IR, Horvat back

The Islanders had a lot of developments coming out of the holiday break to shut out the Rangers again. Injury updates and a return, plus more Hogberg presence while Ilya Sorokin recovers. They’re back at it tonight in Columbus for a 5 p.m. start. Quick turnaround, hopefully not a letdown. Leave First Islanders Goal picks […]
