The 2026 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship will take place between Dec. 26, 2025 and Jan. 5, 2026, in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota. If we’ve learned anything about the World Junior Championship, it would be wise for countries to have a Blackhawks prospect on their roster.
Each of the last five gold medal winning teams had at least one Blackhawks prospect (already drafted by Chicago) on its roster — and a couple more who eventually became Blackhawks.

On Monday afternoon the Blackhawks assigned defenseman Sam Rinzel and forward Landon Slaggert to the Rockford IceHogs.
The Blackhawks did not call anyone up.
The move leaves the Blackhawks with six defensemen on their NHL roster, which means they’ll go back to skating 12 forwards. Which, with Slaggert going to Rockford, also means Sam Lafferty will draw into the lineup until Nick Foligno returns from injury.
