The Cubs Would Not Be Afraid to Make a “Huge Investment” on Tatsuya Imai

I wouldn’t say Japanese ace Tatsuya Imai is the top starting pitcher on the free agent market this year, necessarily, and I wouldn’t say it’s a lock that the Chicago Cubs pursue him in any case. But I would say that, on paper, the 27-year-old appears to have big-league-caliber stuff, has dominated in Japan to a similar degree that we’ve seen from other starters who’ve come over and had success, and could give the Cubs a different look at the front of their rotation. The Cubs are not unique in ...

Gophers fall apart in final 10 minutes, lose 60-83 at Missouri

THE FACTS: Minnesota led for most of the first half, trailed by two at the half and was within six points in the final 10 minutes before Missouri blitzed the Gophers to win by 23, 83-60. This was really a good game, encouraging for Gopher fans for 31 minutes, but eventually the depth and overall talent […]

Donovan Olugbode elevates performance as Mizzou offense searches for answers

Missouri’s College Football Playoff hopes ended last Saturday in a dull thud against Texas A&M as the Tigers offense failed to gain any forward momentum for much of the contest. Kirby Moore’s unit was unable to compensate for the loss of two key starters, Beau Pribula and Brett Norfleet, against one of the nation’s top […]

Elephant Rumblings: The Year of Repeats?

So far 2025 honors seem to be repeat performances from last year. With the exception of the ROY announcement on Monday (which technically can’t be the same as the year before) we’ve had familiar faces hoisting hardware. It started with the rare back-to-back World Series victories by the Los Angeles Dodgers and has continued with […]

Keston Hiura’s ride with the Rockies was short and uneventful

Welcome to the 2025 edition of Ranking the Rockies, where we take a look back at every player to log playing time for the Rockies in 2025. The purpose of this list is to provide a snapshot of the player in context. The “Ranking” is an organizing principle that’s drawn from Baseball Reference’s WAR (rWAR). […]

Cubs free agent target: Zac Gallen

Most, if not all, of the players I’ve put in this series to date are guys the Cubs likely will not sign — too much money, too many years, or both. Here’s a pitcher who seems more up Jed Hoyer’s alley at the present time. Zac Gallen was originally drafted by the Cardinals (third round, […]

Pinstripe Alley’s 2025 MLB playoff predictions revisited

Now that the dust has settled, it’s come time to look back at how we did with predicting the 2025 season. We’re still waiting on the results of some seasonal awards, so we’ll have to wait until next to week to review our regular season predictions, but now we can take a look at how […]

International Free Agent Profile: Kazuma Okamoto

Kazuma Okamoto was born in Gojo, a city of roughly 27,000 within Japan’s Nara Prefecture, on June 30, 1996. With multiple high schools interested in him attending their institution and actively “scouting” him, Okamoto decided on in Chiben Gakuen High School, a school known for baseball success and having multiple players eventually get drafted as […]

Offseason Trade Target: Seth Halvorsen

Colorado Rockies closer Seth Halvorsen was drafted in the seventh round out of the University of Tennessee back in 2023 and pitched well enough in two months with the Rockies organization to earn two promotions, the second to Double-A. By August 2024, he was in the big leagues. This snowballed into a good amount of […]

Cy Young Winners, Bieber, Market Factors, NL Central, and Other Cubs Bullets

Our water heater died a couple weeks ago, so we had to get it replaced. It was incredibly old, so we kinda felt fortunate to have gotten as much run out of it as we did. The new one is working fine – or at least, it was, until this morning when I discovered the ever-expanding pool of water coming from it in our basement. So that’s been a healthy portion of my morning. There wasn’t much suspense with the Cy Young Awards, with Tarik Skubal almost winning unanimously, and Paul Skenes winni...

Will the 49ers be cautious with Brock Purdy vs. Cardinals?

The San Francisco 49ers are currently trending to start quarterback Brock Purdy for the first time since Week 4 this weekend when they face the Arizona Cardinals on the road. Purdy, who has been limited in practice for the last few weeks as he’s ramped up following a toe injury, has now had one ‘aggressive’ […]

Thursday Morning Links

Morning, all! The Rangers have announced some coaching staff changes for 2026 which include Travis Jankowski and his fierce flow. Chris Young is not in the least bit afraid of somehow making the Rangers a better team in 2026 while reducing payroll. Young’s statements ahead of the GM meetings hint at a future where some […]

Should the Phillies target Jo Adell in a trade?

The MLB offseason is ever so slowly lurching to life, and that means trade rumors are starting to rear their head. Last week, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported that the Los Angeles Angels are considering trading outfielders Jo Adell and/or Taylor Ward and Morosi specifically mentioned the Phillies as a possibility. The Phillies are in […]

Could Chris Sale have won the Cy Young but for injury?

Before the 2025 season started and quickly started drifting off the rails, the masthead did a set of preseason predictions. Mine were… really bad. But one thing I remember was that I had Tarik Skubal and Chris Sale repeating as Cy Young Award winners. Well, Skubal played the part, becoming the first repeat winner since […]

Pete Fairbanks could be a solution to the Orioles’ closer problem

Replacing Félix Bautista is no easy feat. The Orioles’ mountainous All-Star closer — who is likely to miss the entire 2026 season, just as he missed all of 2024 — has gigantic shoes that are hard to fill. Just ask Craig Kimbrel, whose 2024 experience in Baltimore turned into a boondoggle. Or Keegan Akin, who […]

2026 South Side Sox Prospect Vote: Round 11

Yep, it’s another pitcher advancing, this time the first of a few players you’ll see on the ballot this year who didn’t even play in 2025: Mason Adams. Adams, an incredibly-promising starting prospect, was injured during a Cactus League game last spring but is expected to be back in action at Birmingham or Charlotte sometime […]
