The bulk of this road trip has been a journey through teams who’ve had surprising season relative to the preseason predictions. Certainly, the San Francisco Giants were not expected to be a laughingstock in global professional sports, but their opponents — Pittsburgh, the Mets, and now the Cardinals — were expected to be the opposite […]
Welcome back to Monday Stat Party, a weekly series showcasing some of the most curious and nostalgia-inducing statistical developments from the past week of Mets baseball. What unites each entry is the sense of intrigue which they aim to spark, and the unbridled love of the game’s anomalies from which they arise. Without further ado, […]

The New York Mets (65-78) head back to Florida to face the Miami Marlins (72-72) in an attempt to hurt their division rival’s postseason dreams. The Mets have dropped six out of ten games to the Marlins this year, including all three games at loanDepot Park back in May. The Mets returned the favor by […]
Meet the Mets The Mets looked fairly hopeless and bad through their first seven times up, but against all odds and tradition, they suddenly looked good and became winners. Choose your recap: Amazin’ Avenue, MLB.com, Newsday, New York Daily News, New York Post Prior to Sunday’s victory, the Mets sent leaping Jefry Yan to Syracuse […]

Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (38-37/34-28) SYRACUSE 4, ROCHESTER 3 (BOX) Rochester scored a pair of runs in the first and another run in the eighth to give them three runs. Syracuse scored a run in the fourth and then a pair in the eighth to give them three runs as well. In the top of the […]
The Baltimore Orioles took a calculated gamble in claiming oft-injury outfielder Luis Robert Jr. off waivers from the New York Mets. With almost $5 million still remaining on his massive contract, the slugger was having a resurgent month of August. But then... there is always the injury bug waiting around the corner for Robert Jr., isn't there? That's where the gamble comes in. On Sunday, the O's lost that gamble, as they were forced to place Robert Jr. on the injured list with a hamstring inj...
Just when you thought the Mets were going to go quietly, an eighth-inning power surge changed the narrative Sunday in New York. Brett Baty and Bo Bichette both homered in an epic eighth-inning rally to secure a 4-2 victory over the Giants, as the Mets stole a win and the series. Stymied by Giants rookie […]
This one, I am sure, you had fairly high confidence in the Cubs’ chances, what with Clay Holmes on the mound. Holmes had an ERA of 0.36 over his last four starts and had been solid all year between the Mets and Cubs rotations. Welp. Holmes not only had his worst start as a Cub, […]
The Baltimore Orioles are attempting to make a run at the playoffs. As part of that, the Orioles signed Luis Robert Jr., claiming him off waivers from the New York Mets. Now, Robert is expected to miss some time with a hamstring injury, per Bob Nightingale of USA Today. “The Baltimore Orioles, who just took […] The post Of course Orioles’ Luis Robert Jr. is already injured appeared first on ClutchPoints .
It’s series finale time, and it’s the rubber match between the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets, a pair of teams who expected to be a whole lot better than they are. On the mound for the Giants is left-hander César Perdomo, who makes his second career appearance. The 24-year old, who was only […]

Meet the Mets The Mets fell to the Giants 9-5, as San Francisco gave the Mets a taste of their own medicine that they issued the night before by socking six home runs against Mets pitching. Four of them were surrendered by Zac Thornton, who had his worst start as a big leaguer thus far […]
Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (71 – 65) ROCHESTER 14, SYRACUSE 9 (BOX) Emilien Pitre’s first Triple-A home run – along with homers from Ronny Mauricio and MJ Melendez – were not enough to overcome a truly dreadful pitching performance from nearly every arm who got in the game tonight. Truly a waste of a lineup performance when all […]
Giants manager Tony Vitello was ejected once again on Saturday, and it did not take long for a Mets broadcaster to point out a growing pattern around the men in blue. San Francisco beat the Mets 9-5 at Citi Field, but the story of the day became a blown replay review in the top of […] The post Mets broadcaster calls umpires out after Giants’ Tony Vitello gets ejected appeared first on ClutchPoints .
Zac Thornton entered today’s game with a 2.93 ERA in 11 starts. It’s been quite the surprising season for the rookie lefty, who has managed those impressive topline numbers despite boasting less than flashy stuff and underlying peripherals. Alas, those topline numbers look a little bit worse after today’s game, as Thornton underwent his worst […]
By Jay Horwitz I will miss talking to my old friend Joe McDonald, who was the general manager of the Mets from 1975–1979. I started the next year with the team but we stayed in almost monthly contact through the years. Joe recently passed at 97. He would always check in with me to see how some of his players like Lee Mazzilli, Dough Flynn Craig Swan and Joe Torre were doing. Joe did interviews for me well into his 90’s. He was a great resource. Joe had great stories every time we spoke. What a...
