On January 25th in 2004, Washington Capitals owner and AOL executive Ted Leonsis attacked season ticket holder Jason Hammer, grabbing his neck and throwing him to the ground, in response to the fan's game long heckling and insulting sign "Caps Hockey; AOL Stock -- See a Pattern?". Embarrassed by the outburst Leonsis apologized to Hammer the next day and the pair agreed to move past the melee.

Oilers Thoughts: Bouchard’s clutch gene, Kapanen’s top line promotion, Samanski making strides, McMann trade talk and Roslovic’s proposed extension

With the Edmonton Oilers’ first three-game win streak of the season and the excitement packed into those games, if you could bottle all that energy into a morning drink, coffee companies would be out of business. The Oilers pulled off their first comeback from a three-goal deficit in the third period since 2022 with a…

Former Oiler Derek Ryan says depth players need ‘a role’ on current team

A recently retired Edmonton Oiler offered his critique of the team, saying they need to find ways to give depth players roles.  Derek Ryan, who played with the Oilers from 2021-22 to 2024-25, was on Oilers Now with Bob Stauffer on Wednesday.  Stauffer asked Ryan if he viewed Edmonton as a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. …

As we know, modern NHL nicknames are terrible, with most of them either just being a player's name with an -er or -y ending tacked on, or something based on player initials that features zero creativity. Let's fix that. How it works: Readers send in nicknames for players (or lines or pairings or whatever), and a small group of us rule on whether they were good or not. We're be looking for either of two kinds of submissions: - Brand new nicknames that you came up with, or that are perco...

The Hockey Show - Episode 697

The Hockey Show , Canada's only campus-produced radio show that strictly talks hockey, is back in the cozy confines of the UMFM studio tonight where it will be a normal temperature unlike our rink setting last week. Obviously, our hosts had a blast seeing some of the best women's hockey action this province has to offer at the 2026 Female World Sport School Challenge, and they'll wrap up that experience with some well-deserved thank-yous, a recap of what happened, and a discussion on where the...

The Edmonton Oilers are approaching their first third consecutive win of the season. Again. Over halfway through the season, and they still haven’t managed it. They’ve had plenty of chances.
