The Case for Zach Hyman to make Team Canada

Canada’s roster for the 2026 Olympics in Milan will be revealed in just a few days on Dec. 31st. Connor McDavid was already named as one of the first six players on the roster back in June, but today I want to talk about another Oiler who is a dark horse to make the team….

The Rundown - The Playoff Picture

We are firmly entrenched in the holiday season, exams are over, players are preparing for the second half of the season, and teams will be looking at their schedules when it comes to where they need to make up ground, win key games, and potentially lock up playoff spots. The Canada West season has given us just one team who already knows they'll be playing in late February, so there are opportunities for eight other teams to make a push in this second half. Today, we'll look at what each team ...

How Vasily Podkolzin has emerged into Leon Draisaitl’s go-to winger

Throughout the past two regular seasons at five-on-five, Leon Draisaitl’s most common forward linemate has not been Connor McDavid. It has not been Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or Zach Hyman either. Instead, the forward who has most often ridden shotgun with the 2025 Rocket Richard winner is Vasily Podkolzin. The Edmonton Oilers initially brought in Podkolzin in…

An Alleged Felon Or A Cry For Help?

I have spent the last couple of days reading up on all the happenings in the ECHL's current labour battle with games having been postponed as of yesterday afternoon. Admittedly, I think Jason and I hit on all the topics on The Hockey Show on Thursday, and I know I wrote a lot about what seemed to be the major points of contention on Monday. Today, though, a new wrinkle emerged in the ownership ranks as it seems one team owner might be in a lot of hot water legally, and this could certainly aff...

Avoiding All The Malls

I've never understood the need to go shopping the day after Christmas. Boxing Day is normally when a lot of stuff, including boxes, makes its way out to the recycle bins and garbage bins, but the idea of going to get more stuff after receiving gifts the day before makes no sense to me. I would hope that there are no sales bigger than Rome considering how large that city is, but there are clearly those who enjoy the rush of getting that deal that my brain just doesn't comprehend. I found it fun...

Scenes From Morning Skate: Will bad blood boil between Oilers and Flames?

If you’re a Battle of Alberta fan, tonight’s the night. The Edmonton Oilers visit the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome for game two, and if last game said anything, it’s that this one should be worth watching. Last game, in Edmonton on Tuesday, Leon Draisaitl scored a hat trick — all three goals on…

Terminating Tomášek’s contract a win-win for player and Oilers

David Tomášek is set to join the legion of overseas free agents signed by the Edmonton Oilers who just didn’t work out. He’s not the first — following suit with the Gaetan Haas’, Joakim Nygard’s and Mikko Koskinen’s of the world — and he likely won’t be the last, and above all, he wasn’t a…

Flashback Friday: Tkachuk’s hit on Zack Kassian and the ensuing fallout

Things got chippy in the last Battle of Alberta. On Tuesday, the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers played for the second time this season, the first time since the season opener. Despite being on Festivus, two days before Christmas, the two teams weren’t very festive. After a rather tame first period and an Oilers’ goal…

Top 100 Oilers: No. 58 — Cam Talbot

Oilersnation is reviving the Top 100 Edmonton Oilers of All Time list, a project originally created by the late Robin Brownlee in 2015. Cam Talbot comes in at No. 58 on our updated 2025 list. He was not ranked on Brownlee’s original list. Cam Talbot was the best Edmonton Oilers goalie of the 2010s and…

Today In NHL History - Ilya Kovalchuk's Own Goal

On December 26th in 2011, New Jersey Devils forward Ilya Kovalchuk fired an errant pass from the Carolina Hurricanes goal line past extra-attacker and intended recipient Adam Henrique and into the Devils empty net for an own goal, down 3-2 with 29 seconds to play. Afterwards, the oft-maligned overpaid winger acknowledged "we were working hard, but a bad decision by me cost us the game."
