Flyers’ Trevor Zegras went nuts against rival Penguins and it was perfect

When the Philadelphia Flyers acquired Trevor Zegras from the Anaheim Ducks last summer, there was concern if he would really fit in. If he could truly be someone that gels with what they’re trying to do here and wear the Orange and Black as well as some other forwards have. And in one single game, he proved that not only can he led this team’s offense but also be as pesky as needed to be a perfect example of a Flyer. During Tuesday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the first g...

Takeaways: Flyers play a strange, feisty game in shootout win over Penguins

On the second game of a five-game homestand, the Flyers beat the Penguins by a score of 3-2 in the shootout. For the first time in quite some time, the Flyers and Penguins matchup had some juice to it, with one of the messier overtime periods in recent memory.  The basics First period: 10:19 – Justin Brazeau (Anthony Mantha, Matt Dumba), 17:25 – Bobby Brink (Noah Cates, Trevor Zegras) (PPG)  Second period: 2:46 – Travis Konecny (Sean Couturier, Brink)  Third period: 11:57 – Sidn...

Travis Konecny scores his 200th goal as a Flyer

Travis Konency scored his second goal of the season tonight against the Penguins, and it was a milestone goal as it was the 200th of his career as a Flyer. Konecny, who became the seventeenth Flyer to hit that achievement, scored the tally early in the second on a nice shot that beat Penguins goalie Arturs Silovs clean and low on the stick side. Sean Couturier and Bobby Brink had the assists. Konecny nearly potted his 200th minutes earlier on a shorthanded attempt but Silovs just got enough of...

Flyers recall Emil Andrae from AHL, but will sit vs. Penguins

The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled defenseman Emil Andrae on Tuesday afternoon from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League. The move probably should put a smile on the faces of many Flyers fans. How Flyers should have handled Jett Luchanko to begin the season

There was excitement in the air when 2024 first-round pick Jett Luchanko made the Philadelphia Flyers’ opening roster for the second consecutive season. After making the roster in his draft year largely thanks to John Tortorella singing his praises, he played in just four games with the Flyers before getting sent back to the Guelph Storm in the OHL. Some thought — myself included — that it would be different this time around, but once again the 19-year-old center saw just four games befor...

What Jett Luchanko leaving means for Flyers’ fourth line

The Flyers’ fourth line is like most fourth lines on any National Hockey League club: they’re limited in their minutes, they are often “energy” lines which throw body checks and stir things up, and they rarely end up being huge offensive producers. For this first eight games of the 2025-26 season, Philadelphia has had a bit of a rotating crew who have assumed the bottom three positions. Rodrigo Abols has been used in that capacity. The same goes for Nikita Grebenkin, Garnet Hathaway, Nic Desla...

Flyers make surprising lineup changes before Penguins matchup

The Philadelphia Flyers are in action for the first time this week and are facing the archrival Pittsburgh Penguins for the first time this season, as well. Ahead of this Pennsylvanian collision, Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet decided to shakeup the lineup a little bit and take out a fan favorite from the game. Reported through multiple sources as skaters started to take the ice at Tuesday’s morning skate and later confirmed by the team, the Flyers are making several changes and we will b...

Flyers Trick or Treat: Early surprises and letdowns this season

The Philadelphia Flyers’ 2025-26 season is still in its infancy with lots of hockey left to be played. But already there have been players for the Flyers who have been a bright spot or have surprised some people. And then there are others who are still looking like they’ve been getting some of the rust off or having a bit of a slump to begin the year. So, with Halloween set for Friday, it’s time to take an early look at just who has been underwhelming or not great so far (the tricks) and ...

Tuesday Morning Fly By: So long for now, Jett

*We’ve got a busy week on deck around here, and the Flyers certainly opened it up with a bang. Not that we weren’t expecting it, but perhaps that we weren’t expecting it so soon, but this is how it’s playing out all the same — Jett Luchanko is on his way back to Guelph of the OHL. [ BSH ] *It’s a situation that the Flyers, no doubt, have weighed and considered heavily before making it official. [ BSH ] *Our pal Charlie also took some time to break down his read of and his thoughts on...

Flyers GM Briere explains why he sent Luchanko back to OHL

The Philadelphia Flyers sent prospect Jett Luchanko back to the OHL’s Guelph Storm after over three weeks of trying him out in the NHL for the second season in a row. With the end result being the exact same, as the 19-year-old heads into his final year of junior hockey, Flyers general manager Danny Briere had some questions to answer. Luchanko started with the Flyers last season largely because then head coach John Tortorella was infatuated with his speed and defensive work. That team ha...

In early success, Phantoms learning hard lessons in how to win in AHL

The Phantoms, with a record of 4-2-1 and a third in the division points percentage through their first seven games of the season, are off to one of their more productive starts to a season since their relocation to the Lehigh Valley, but the road to get to this point hasn’t been an easy one. In their busiest week in the schedule to date — that is, their first week with three games on the schedule — the Phantoms faced a wild bit of volatility in both play and results. Coming off of a huge ...

Flyers send prospect Jett Luchanko back to OHL

The Philadelphia Flyers have made their decision. After a handful of games into the regular season and not a whole lot of minutes to hand out to a top prospect, the Flyers have sent Jett Luchanko back to the OHL where he will lace up for the Guelph Storm for the remainder of his season. Daily Faceoff’s Anthony Di Marco was the first to report it, but as Flyers practice started Monday morning and Luchanko was not on the ice, it became obvious that he’s been sent back. It was then confirmed...

Ranking our favorite Simpsons ‘Treehouse of Horror’ segments

Believe it or not, we are up to thirty-six Treehouse of Horror episodes from the Simpsons and have been going strong since Season Two back in 1990. If you aren’t familiar with the Treehouse of Horror series, it consists of three non-canonical shorts/segments that often spoof or parody a popular spooky story, film, or horror trope. Among the Simpsons community, it is a love it or hate it tradition that typically airs the Sunday before or after Halloween. As children of the 90’s, the Flyper...

Flyers’ 3 Stars of the Week: Goaltending, Zegras remain the bright spots

The third full week of the season was another good one for the Orange and Black, as the team went 2-1-0 in three games this week. With two home wins over the Seattle Kraken and the New York Islanders, and a loss in Ottawa between them, the Flyers improved to 4-3-1 in their first eight games of the season.  In this week’s three stars, we have some familiar faces from last week’s stars, and a new entrant to the list!  3. Monday Morning Fly By: Back on track

*It’s been another busy weekend around here, and the Flyers put an exclamation point on it by picking up a huge bounce back win over the Islanders in their Saturday matinee. [ BSH ] *Once you make it through our observations, if you’re still hungry for more, Charlie has his usual 10 over on his site. [ PHLY ] *Saturday’s was a nice game too on a human level, as Marshall Warren made his NHL debut for his hometown team, and even picked up his first NHL point, even though it came in the...

Trevor Zegras makes well-earned breakout effort for Flyers against Islanders

Trevor Zegras is finally breaking out for the Flyers. After coming over in a blockbuster trade with Anaheim over the summer, looking to build up his game after a challenging couple of seasons with a struggling organization, Zegras has been nicely able to hit the ground running right from the jump, bringing some immediate pop in the preseason and working well to build up his game from there. All the same, though, while the Flyers have gotten some good work from him in the early goings, there wa...

Flyers goalie Sam Ersson embracing competition with Dan Vladar

Following the Philadelphia Flyers’ 4-3 shootout win over the New York Islanders at Xfinity Mobile Arena Saturday afternoon, forward Trevor Zegras rightfully stood squarely in the spotlight after logging a pair of goals, an assist, and a shootout tally. But goaltender Sam Ersson deserved some recognition as well, and Zegras wasted no time giving his goalie his flowers after the game. “I mean, he made a couple crazy one-timer saves in overtime, and then obviously he finished it off in ...

Jamie Drysdale and Nick Seeler might be key to Flyers success next six weeks and beyond

With injuries still causing significant absences on the Philadelphia Flyers’ blue line and the destabilization of the bottom of the depth chart, it might be up to one single defensive pairing to really carry this team to early-season success. The Flyers have a third pairing that very few people in the National Hockey League are envious of. Whether it’s been Egor Zamula, Noah Juulsen, Adam Ginning or (for a game) Emil Andrae, the fifth and sixth defensemen have been far from great. If it w...

Porter Martone continues to shine with Michigan State

Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Porter Martone is really good at this whole hockey thing. Tonight, he and the newly no. 1 ranked team Michigan State Spartans opened their weekend series with the Northern Michigan Wildcats, and Martone made his mark early and often. Coming off of a strong showing against Boston University , the Flyers’ 6th overall pick stayed hot, cashing in himself and picking up another helper. Just about midway through the first period, Martone was able to keep the...

Flyers’ Matvei Michkov signals season turnaround after game vs. Senators

The dark cloud over what has been a surprisingly decent start to the Philadelphia Flyers season has been Matvei Michkov’s performance. But after spending a night in Ottawa, there might be some signs of life. Coming into Thursday night’s game, there were serious questions about whether or not Michkov would get his season going before people start to panic. Maybe, there are some that are already panicking, but after some reassurance that his molasses-slow start to his season is because he s...
