Three scenarios: What history says about the Wizards this season
After a brutal stretch of losing by design, the Wizards are going to try to start winning this year. The past three seasons, the team totaled 50 wins — tied with the 2021-24 Detroit Pistons for the 10th worst three-year stretch in NBA history. The worst stretch belongs to The Process Philadelphia 76ers, which went […]
Wizards Training Camp Day 5: Will Riley ‘confident’ entering Year 2
WASHINGTON — Will Riley didn’t play more than 20 minutes in a game until December of his rookie season. Then he played 32 minutes per contest across the final three months. And he thrived. Riley averaged 15.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists during that stretch. He scored in a myriad of ways — slithering […]
Bub Carrington claimed that the Wizards were “held back” last season
The Washington Wizards are in the middle of training camp, where fans were in long lines to attend an open practice at Capital One Arena yesterday. Before that practice, Bub Carrington was interviewed on WUSA-TV where he said that the Wizards were “held back because [they] were trying to get AJ Dybantsa. That’s no secret.” […]
Tristan Vukcevic sidelined with hip injury
Wizards forward/center Tristan Vukčević sustained a left hip impingement and will be reevaluated in approximately four weeks, the Wizards announced Thursday. Vukcevic had been a partial participant during the first two days of training camp. He’ll continue to be a partial participant throughout the remainder of camp. The 23-year-old averaged 9.0 points and 3.0 rebounds […]

The Washington Wizards on Thursday released their 2026-27 promotional schedule, which features an AJ Dybantsa bobblehead night when the Wizards play the Miami Heat on Feb. 10. Shepard averaged 14.5 points, 11.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game this season for Dallas and received 29 votes. That said, Washington Mystics center Shakira Austin was the runner up with 25 votes. She averaged a career […]
Grade the Mystics’ 2026 season
The Washington Mystics’ 2026 season is over. So, over the next few days, we will analyze how it went, what we liked, didn’t like and wish to see in 2027. In the meantime, here’s a poll I wrote in the Feed that I embedded below. Your job is to grade Washington’s 2026 season. VOTE! For […]
Conflicting reports emerge on Wizards’ interest in Jalen Duren
The Washington Wizards have been floated as a potential trade destination for Jalen Duren over the past week. It remains unclear whether there is any actual fire amid the billowing smoke. The Wizards were among four teams ESPN’s Marc J. Spears mentioned during Monday’s episode of NBA Today that were said to “have interest in […]
Mystics vs. Dream final score: Washington’s season ends in 93-75 loss
WASHINGTON — It took the Washington Mystics 2,547 days to bring playoff basketball back to CareFirst Arena. And it was all gone in a flash. The Mystics stayed close for three quarters. But a fourth-quarter implosion led to their demise, as they fell to Atlanta, 93-75. “Immensely disappointed with the result. Want to congratulate Atlanta […]
Buy low, play now: Why NBA teams should be begging the Wizards for Justin Champagnie
Back in May, I asked if the end of the tanking era would usher in minutes for Justin Champagnie. My thinking on Champagnie hasn’t changed, but my answer has. Which is to say, I still think Champagnie is an average NBA player, and that if the Wizards hold an open competition for forward minutes, he […]

No Mystics players or coaches win AP WNBA Awards
The Associated Press released their WNBA awards yesterday. The headliners included Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson winning Player of the Year and Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve winning Coach of the Year. The bigger shock, at least in my opinion, is that no one form the Washington Mystics won any award on the […]

Wizards Media Day 2026: One interesting thing each player said
This post will be updated throughout the day WASHINGTON — Media days mark the unofficial start of the NBA season. For the Washington Wizards, the last three media days carried guarded optimism—excitement for the season ahead but pessimism entering another 60-plus-loss campaign. The “guarded” label was lifted at Monday’s media day as the Wizards, brimming […]

With training camp opening tomorrow, there’s time for one or two trips on The Statistical Doppelganger Machine. Next up: the guy who figures to be the team’s backup big man this season, DeAndre Ayton. According to Basketball-Reference and other online sources, it only feels like Ayton has been in the NBA forever. Somehow, this will […]

When it comes to Anthony Davis, the Doppelganger Machine sees legends
The big things that came to mind when I sat down to analyze Anthony Davis were negatives: he misses a lot of games, and he’s aging — he’ll turn 34 in March. As Southern Utah University sports economist and author of Wages of Wins David Berri has written, NBA players age like milk. A few […]
A look at the Mystics’ 2026 statistical leaders
A 101-93 victory over the Chicago Sky on Thursday night helped the Washington Mystics finish their 2026 regular season with a 28-16 record and earn the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference behind strong performances from its statistical leaders. At the center of Washington’s attack was Shakira Austin, who led the Mystics in scoring […]

A longtime Mystics fan got ejected from last night’s game for … jeering at free throws?
The Washington Mystics defeated the Chicago Sky last night for their only game at Capital One Arena in the 2026 WNBA regular season. That’s the good news. Generally speaking, the Mystics have stayed out of the headlines of the league’s talking points if you will. And their fans have remained respectful. Well, at least until […]
