Defenceman John Klingberg announces retirement from NHL

John Klingberg’s career has come to an end. The defenceman announced his retirement from professional hockey on Friday. Klingberg appeared in 700 NHL games across 12 seasons with six different franchises. He spent the bulk of his tenure with the Dallas Stars before making brief stops in Anaheim, Minnesota, Toronto, Edmonton and San Jose. The 34-year-old totalled 92 goals and 351 assists for 443 points in his career. Injuries unfortunately became a major issue for Klingberg as his career progre...

John Klingberg retires from NHL after 700-game career

Veteran defenseman John Klingberg announced on Friday that he has officially retired from professional hockey, having put the finishing touches on a 700-game NHL career as a member of the San Jose Sharks last season. A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Klingberg was chosen with the No. 131 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2010 NHL Draft by the Dallas Stars, and he was certainly one of the biggest steals of one of the strongest draft classes of its decade. Klingberg broke into the league with...

3 burning Blackhawks questions entering 2026-27 NHL season

The Chicago Blackhawks once again missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2026. The Blackhawks did not reach the highs that similar teams such as the San Jose Sharks reached a year ago. But Connor Bedard and his teammates still made progress as a team in 2025-26. The Blackhawks want to turn the corner sooner rather […] The post 3 burning Blackhawks questions entering 2026-27 NHL season appeared first on ClutchPoints .

No. 18 Cam Lund: Patience could pay off with second round pick

Cam Lund’s first full professional season did not go completely to plan, but he did not let any setbacks derail his progression. The San Jose Sharks’ 2022 second-round pick spent the 2025-26 season with the Barracuda, producing 9 goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 37 games, while replacing an injured Filip Bystedt to earn an AHL All-Star selection. His own season was then cut short by an injury, making the numbers somewhat less representative of his earlier progress. Ultimately, however, Lu...

3 burning Sharks questions entering 2026-27 NHL season

The San Jose Sharks missed the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, it was far from a poor season for San Jose. Macklin Celebrini emerged as one of the best players in the world in 2026-27. And he nearly single-handedly carried this team into the playoffs. In the end, San Jose didn’t have enough to qualify. Barry Melrose Brought Hockey Home

Go ahead and listen to this . (For the real perverts, use this one ; you just know you're about to stay up until 1:00 a.m. for a particularly shitty Sharks–Mighty Ducks game.) What does it evoke? What do you think of? More specifically, who do you think of? You immediately know you're about to spend some time with Barry Melrose, the formative face—and hair—of an entire generation of American hockey fans. Melrose died Wednesday at age 70 , three years after he had been diagnosed with Parkins...

Sharks Mic Check: Aiden Celebrini

Brodie Brazil talks with Macklin Celebrini’s older brother, Aiden, about Mack’s NHL27 cover, their childhood, and growing up in Vancouver.

No. 19 Ethan Cardwell: It’s now or never

For 24-year-old Ethan Cardwell, this might be his last chance to show he has what it takes to make it on the San Jose Sharks’ roster. The young forward had a chance to force his way onto the roster last season, but an up-and-down showing when he did get the call up didn’t do him any favors. Instead, he was passed on the depth chart early in the season and, when the roster spots finally opened up in the spring, Cardwell was unavailable. The forward suffered a season-ending injury in February th...

Sharks sign goaltender Ilya Samsonov, but why four NHL goaltenders?

The San Jose Sharks have added another goaltender with NHL games on his resume to the team’s roster. The Sharks have signed Ilya Samsonov to a one-year, two-way contract. According to PuckPedia, the goaltender has a $850,000 cap hit whether he’s playing in the AHL or the NHL that drops down to $225,000 if he’s playing in the AHL. The 29-year-old Samsonov played in the KHL last season, where he appeared in 14 games of HK Sochi and finished the season with a 3.27 goals-against average and ....

No. 20 Nolan Allan: Depth defenseman of the future?

The San Jose Sharks have done a very good job of building the prospect pool through the draft. In fact, the first five players on our list were all selected by General Manager Mike Grier and his team in the past few drafts. That said, sometimes you have to use the assets that you acquire to fill positions of need. And that’s the case with the 20th player on our list, Nolan Allan, who was added to the Sharks through trade rather than through the draft. The Sharks traded for Allan in Januar...

Sharks Sign Ilya Samsonov To Two-Way Deal

By Gabriel Foley | at September 8, 2026 3:34 pm The San Jose Sharks has signed goaltender Ilya Samsonov to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season. This deal offers Samsonov a return to the NHL after spending last season with HK Sochi of Russia’s KHL. The 29-year-old netminder last appeared in the NHL with the Vegas Golden Knights. He has also spent two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs and three with the Washington Capitals. Samsonov faced a string of injuries during his last s...

Sharks Secure Ilya Samsonov on One-Year Deal for Return to NHL

A familiar name is returning to the NHL. On Tuesday, San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier announced that the team has signed goaltender Ilya Samsonov to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season. The deal’s financial terms have yet to be revealed. It’s going to be tough for Samsonov to find a spot on the main roster this month, as Yaroslav Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic are expected to be the Sharks’ duo at the start of the season. Samsonov comes back to North America after spend...
