Wild's Filip Gustavsson Named Olympic Disappointment

That's Wild As we go through some of the major takeaways in the first week of men's hockey at the 2026 Winter Olympics, a whole lot of people are having their takes. And while most of it is praising Juraj Slafkovsky for being some beast that loves international tournaments, or Team Canada seemi...

Monday Scramble: McDavid set to smash Olympic NHLer record, France’s fighter suspended, love for Slovakia, and no thanks to Foegele

How would Team Canada do without Connor McDavid?  Now Canada would be fine, obviously. Luckily, we don’t have to find out. But the absolute dominance that McDavid has displayed in just three games is arguably the best three-game stretch for any NHL player in the Olympics.  Usually, offence cannibalizes on a stacked team like this….

Ryan Bliss, the mountain holds the cards

Embarrassing confession time: I unabashedly love the Olympic Games. In my defense, it’s in my DNA: I was born during the Lake Placid Olympics, a week before the Miracle On Ice. Wait, let me make this even more embarrassing: I love the Olympics largely because I was a kid in Seattle for the 1990 Goodwill […]

Jon Cooper on Tom Wilson’s scrap against France: “Pretty harmless, in the grand scheme of things, of what we’re used to”

On the team’s approach to the game, knowing goal difference could matter regarding the seeding and quarterfinal opponent:  I told our guys before the game that we can’t put ourselves in […] The post Jon Cooper on Tom Wilson’s scrap against France: “Pretty harmless, in the grand scheme of things, of what we’re used to” appeared first on Maple Lea...

Colorado Avalanche & Toronto Maple Leafs Linked to Pre-Deadline Deal

The Colorado Avalanche have been dominating the NHL all season long, and word is, they will be aggressive ahead of the March 6 trade deadline. While there aren't many gaps in the roster, the Avs are looking to add a top-nine winger who can play up and down the lineup, and bring some more secondary scoring. The Avalanche entered the Olympic break with just $5 million in cap space, so GM Chris MacFarland will have to be creative in order to add multiple pieces ahead of the deadline. Up front, th...

NHL Trade Rumors: Dougie Hamilton Projected for Reunion with Hurricanes

Dougie Hamilton's future with the New Jersey Devils is up in the air. That's putting it mildly. The team was actively trying to trade him earlier this season to open up some cap room.  There have been  many teams linked to a potential deal for Hamilton , including the Toronto Maple Leafs. But insider Chris Johnston  in The Athletic projects a more familiar landing spot for the big, puck-moving offensive defenseman. He predicts Hamilton going back to the Carolina Hurricanes.&nbsp...

Maple Leafs Rumors: McMann Not Quite Worth What Toronto Is Asking For

The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly going to move on from Bobby McMann as he'll fetch a good return and they may feel like he's going to be too costly to re-sign. Whether anyone other than the organization thinks it's a good idea to trade him instead of bringing him back, the Maple Leafs are going to do what they think is best to retool the team again before next season and get back to being contenders. James Mirtle said, "The talk out there is people think he's worth what Kiefer Sherwood g...

Insider: 'Conversation' Definitely Coming for Maple Leafs & Morgan Rielly

As the longest-serving Toronto Maple Leaf, no player has seen more of the drama and playoff failures surrounding this team in the Auston Matthews Era than Morgan Rielly. Now in his 13th year in the Blue & White, the 31-year-old defenseman still has four years to run after this one on his $7.5 million cap hit.  But he is simply not the same player that the Leafs handed that eight-year, $60 million deal to back in 2021. The team would like to turn the page and move on from Rielly, but his f...

2026 Olympics: On Sidney Crosby ‘passing the torch’ to Connor McDavid

Hold the Claude Giroux jokes, we might finally be seeing a real passing of the torch at the 2026 Olympics. Olympics.com: “How Team Canada captain Sidney Crosby is passing the torch to Connor McDavid at Winter Olympics 2026” The evidence focused on symbolism, when Connor McDavid was the last player in line to take the […]

Bottom Six Minutes: Nick Suzuki proves he belongs at the Olympics

With Olympic hockey finally underway, and the NHL participating for the first time since 2014, we have some very exciting games on the schedule while the Habs are off. It started with Canada taking on Czechia yesterday, where the favourites steamrolled their way to a convincing 5-0 win. Jon Cooper received contributions from up and down his lineup, they didn’t allow many high-quality scoring chances, and even when the Czechs found a way to make Jordan Binnington work, he turned in one of his b...

Can Maple Leafs Land a First-Round Pick For Bobby McMann?

The Toronto Maple Leafs keep circling the same deadline question with Bobby McMann.  If he is really pushing for a number near $5 million per season on an extension, is this the moment to sell high, and can they actually squeeze a first-round pick out of a contender?  On the JD Bunkis Podcast , Sportsnet’s James Mirtle left the door open, but made it clear the market is a lot messier than fans want it to be. Can Toronto really get a first for Bobby McMann? Mirtle’s read is that M...

Olympic Openers: Bo & Brock shine

He’s not ours anymore, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate Brocktober in February. The first couple of days in Olympics men’s hockey produced predictable results, with the top-rated teams rolling against less-heralded opponents. Canada brushed Czechia aside while Jordan Binnington pitched a shutout to temper concerns that his NHL season results would continue […]

Recap: Canada opens with 5-0 shutout over Czechia

The youth movement continues. Following in the footsteps of yesterdays impressive performance from Slovakia’s Juraj Slafkovsky, it was the youngest player on the vaunted team Canada who put the favorites on the board first. With just five seconds remaining in the first period against Czechia, the budding superstar from San Jose Sharks Macklin Celebrini potted […]

Flyers’ Travis Sanheim scratched for Canada’s Olympic opener

Despite being the most high profile member of the Flyers to get the call to the Milano-Cortina games, Travis Sanheim will have to wait at least one more game to make his Olympic debut. On the day that Sanheim’s Canadian team was due to take on Dan Vladar’s Czechia, he skated with the other scratches, indicating that he wouldn’t take part in Canada’s opening Round Robin contest.  Canada/Czechia is two hours away Darcy Kuemper, Travis Sanheim & Seth Jarvis skated this morning…indicatin...

High Cost If Oilers Want To Acquire Maple Leafs' Ekman-Larsson

The Edmonton Oilers are one of the teams linked to Bobby McMann of the Toronto Maple Leafs and that's a move that makes a lot of sense considering he's a pending UFA and Toronto is sitting six points out of a playoff spot. But there appears to be another that the Oilers may have interest in as well. David Pagnotta said, "The Leafs aren't trading (Ekman-Larsson) for Mangiapane and a pick. So, sorry, that's not going to happen. You're probably looking at something like an Isaac Howard in a deal ...
