It's An IHL Night!

I had a number of errands I needed to get done tonight, so my ability to watch the Stanley Cup Playoffs was interrupted by life. As much as I try to prevent this from happening, life occasionally gets in the way and needs to be dealt with accordingly. Being that I was running around tonight, I put the car stereo to good use by tuning into Game Two of the AHL Calder Cup series between the Milwaukee Admirals and the Manitoba Moose, but I also used Bluetooth to listen to Game One of the ECHL Kell...

NHL Notebook: No supplemental discipline for Hall after concussing hit on Sanderson, Kings down bad against Avalanche, and more

Ottawa Senators defenceman Jake Sanderson will not play in Game 4 after being sidelined by a concussion following a high hit from Carolina Hurricanes forward Taylor Hall. The hit occurred in the first few minutes of the second period of Thursday night’s Game 2 between the Hurricanes and Senators, and Hall was given a minor…

Game 3 Preview: Avs take aim at 3-0 series lead in LA

The Colorado Avalanche have a chance to take a firm grasp on their first-round series against the team from the city of fallen angels. Some would argue the Kings have been surprisingly good so far this series, but tonight they hope to walk away with something to show for their efforts. The Avalanche won both […]

Five Oilers players who could be X-factors against the Ducks

For four years, the Edmonton Oilers have spent the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs navigating the Los Angeles Kings and their trap hockey. The Kings used their passive style to prevent clean entries and turn each series into a tight-checking slog. This year will be different. Edmonton’s first post-season opponent, the Anaheim Ducks,…

Today In NHL History - Sedin's Disallowed Goal

On April 19th in 2010, Vancouver Canucks forward Daniel Sedin deflected a puck off his skate and past Los Angeles Kings netminder Jonathan Quick in Game 3 of the opening round of the 2010 playoffs, pulling his team within a goal three minutes into the third period. Ruled a good goal by on-ice referee Steve Kozari, NHL SVP Mike Murphy and the off-ice video review crew overturned the ruling after

We’re on the outside and we’re looking in: SCH previews the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs

It’s yet another postseason without the Blackhawks in it, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be watching! With the playoffs starting this weekend, the SCH crew gathered to offer some of their thoughts on it. Western Conference Colorado Avalanche (No. 1 overall seed) vs. Los Angeles Kings (WC2) Dave : I initially created this article about a week before the end of the season, when we still didn’t know who’d win the second wild card spot, inserting “who cares” as a placeholder. Even t...

Colorado Avalanche Get Great News Ahead Of Playoffs

The Colorado Avalanche won 55 regular season games, claimed the Presidents' Trophy, earned home ice throughout the Western Conference playoffs, and finished with 121 points, which was eight clear of the Carolina Hurricanes for the best record in hockey.  They did all of that while dealing with a late-season wave of injuries that would have derailed most teams. Now, with Game 1 against the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday, coach Jared Bednar told reporters that he expects his full roster to be ...

Today In NHL History - Luongo's Stick Gets Stuck

On April 15th in 2010, Canucks netminder Roberto Luongo lodged his goalie stick into the back of his pads after making a spectacular overtime save against the Kings' Jack Johnson in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarter-finals. After a 15 second struggle, Luongo untangled the lumber in time to stop a shot from Brad Richardson as play returned to his end. Vancouver went on to beat Los Angeles

Oilers and Kings could meet in first round of NHL playoffs for fifth year in a row

The Edmonton Oilers’ first-round opponent will either be Colorado, Anaheim, or, for a fifth consecutive season, the Los Angeles Kings. What’s odd about this potential matchup is that despite the Oilers winning the previous four meetings, there isn’t much hatred between the two teams. The Kings haven’t shown much anger or frustration in the regular…

Inside the Sun: Blackhawks vs. Sharks Preview

It’s here: Game 82 of the regular season for the Chicago Blackhawks, who host the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night. These two just played two Mondays ago , so there won’t be too much to dive into here. That game was a 6-2 loss for the Hawks in San Jose, who were hoping to grab a wild-card spot. They didn’t. At 80 games, the Sharks are fifth in the Pacific Division with 84 points, and it was the Los Angeles Kings who grabbed that final spot in the West — I’m just glad it wasn’t the Nashv...
