The San Diego Padres released a statement Tuesday announcing that pitcher Yu Darvish had surgery on Oct. 29. Per the press release, Darvish had his flexor tendon repaired and an internal brace procedure for his UCL. The expected recovery time is 12-15 months. Darvish has surgery, out for 2026

Yu Darvish underwent elbow surgery last Wednesday, he announced today. The San Diego Padre pitcher had internal brace surgery to address a damaged UCL and flexor tendon. He is expected to miss the 2026 season. This is unfortunate news for Darvish, who had Tommy John surgery in 2015 while he was with the Rangers. While […]

Yu Darvish Will Miss the Entirety of the 2026 Season

Yu Darvish wasn’t a Chicago Cubs pitcher for too long, but I enjoyed it so much that I’ll always think of him as a Cub. Which, in turn, means today’s news really, really bums me out: San Diego Padres starter Yu Darvish will miss the 2026 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon and an internal brace in his elbow. https://t.co/Z6cRdogoYh — Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) November 4, 2025 There are two over-arching reactions here to the news: 1.) Padres have busy two weeks ahead of them

With the end of the 2025 season, which was official when Game 7 of the World Series ended, the busy offseason begins. There is always a rush of activity immediately at the start of the Hot Stove season that is followed by a quiet spell over the holidays. Once the Winter Meetings conclude on Dec. […]

Robert Suarez opts out, Wandy Peralta opts in

The fact that National League saves leader Robert Suarez exercised his option and opted out of his contract with the San Diego Padres was not a surprise. It has been long thought that this move was the reason Padres President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller made the deal with the Athletics to […]

Two Premium Relievers Have Opted Out: Robert Suarez and Edwin Diaz

Important insofar as these are relatively big names on the free agent market and impactful arms now available, but less so insofar as none of this is a surprise: top-tier closers Robert Suarez and Edwin Diaz have opted out of their contracts with the Padres and Mets, respectively. Suarez, 34, had two years and $16 million remaining on his deal with the Padres, so it’s not at all a surprise that he’s opting out. He will be able to blow away that guarantee in free agency, and the Average An...

Michael King opts out, MLBPA announces free agents

As expected, San Diego Padres starter Michael King exercised his option to opt-out of his deal with the team, making him a free agent. The Padres could, and should, extend a qualifying offer to King, which if accepted, would give him a one-year, $22.025 million contract for the 2026 season. If King declines the offer […]

Padres tease City Connect 2.0

The San Diego Padres pushed out a 1:24 video clip on social media and included it in emails to fans titled, “¡Feliz Dia de los Muertos!” The clip ends with the SD logo and a Nike swoosh and the words “City Connect 2.0 Coming April 2026.” This appears to be a teaser of what fans […]

Fernando Tatis Jr. wins second Gold Glove Award

It was announced Sunday that San Diego Padres superstar right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. won his second Rawlings Gold Glove Award. It is possible he could win his second Platinum Glove Award as well, but that will not be announced until Nov. 7. Tatis Jr. was one of three finalists for the Gold Glove in […]

Padres first offseason questions

Within five days after the end of the World Series all MLB teams have to make decisions regarding the players who have options in their contracts. Those options can be player options (player makes the decision), club options (club decides what action to take), or mutual options (either side can make the decision). For the […]

Major League Baseball is having one of the more competitive World Series in recent years, but the Friar Faithful are enjoying the festivities from their homes once again and not at Petco Park. The San Diego Padres are seeking to hire a new voice in the dugout. The front office was caught off guard by […]

Yankees 2025 Roster Report Cards: Trent Grisham

With the departure of Juan Soto last winter, the only thing left — besides an American League pennant, which isn’t nothing — left in the Bronx from the trade with the Padres was Trent Grisham. In the deal, the Yankees took on Grisham’s salary to get the Padres to accept a lesser prospect package than […]

Albert Pujols emerges as top Padres managerial candidate

The hottest rumor on the managerial carousel is that Albert Pujols will be managing a major league team in 2026. Some of the franchises linked to him have gone in another direction, while one has him at the top of their list. The Los Angeles Angels, who were thought to be his top suitor, instead hired […]

Padres a perfect landing spot in potential Sonny Gray trade

This offseason, the San Diego Padres could be in the market for a starting pitcher, as their rotation is unsettled at this moment.  Dylan Cease and Michael King are expected to test the free agent market. The front office has concerns about Yu Darvish’s health status heading into the 2026 season, and Joe Musgrove is […]
