The Nats quiet bats exploded last night and they put up 13 runs to win the first game of a 4 game set against the Rockies. Now the Nats need to string together some victories. Winning when Cade Cavalli is not on the mound has been a major challenge lately. Blake Butera is only making […]
NBC seems to have landed on its fourth play-by-play voice for the network’s expanded MLB postseason coverage. With a tripleheader in tow this coming Sunday, the network announced that Tom McCarthy will be behind the mic for Nationals-Marlins on MLB Sunday Leadoff at noon ET on Peacock and NBCSN alongside Jeff Nelson, Kevin Frandsen, and…
August 25: Colorado officially selected Mason Adams before Tuesday’s game against the Nationals. He’s a candidate to draw the start tonight. Blake Adams was sent back to Triple-A. The Rockies also activated catcher Hunter Goodman from the 10-day IL after a minimum stint. Braxton Fulford was optioned to the minors. August 24: The Rockies are planning […]
The Nationals announced today that right-hander Matt Waldron, who they recently claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays, has been added to the active roster. Fellow righty Trevor Williams has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Williams, 34, has mostly been a back-end starter or swingman throughout his career. He has a 4.43 […]
After the game, Cade Cavalli admitted to me that he was not executing to the level he wanted to. He was upset about the “get me over” breaking ball that Ezequiel Tovar crushed and the first-pitch fastball to Willi Castro that missed its spot. It was not the version of Cavalli we saw the last […]
The Philadelphia Phillies won their ninth straight game on Sunday thanks to a dramatic comeback in the final frame. Trailing 4–0 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and a lone man on base, the back end of the Phillies’ lineup rallied. After a J.T. Realmuto single, a Justin Crawford walk, an Edmundo…
Folks in the District of Columbia were not moved by the opportunity to see two of the National League’s struggling teams on a Monday night, as the Colorado Rockies (50-80) and the Washington Nationals (61-71) kicked off their four-game series in front of a sparse crowd of 12,105. Those that did show up got to […]
After being shaken up on a diving play in the fifth inning, Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar left tonight’s game against the Washington Nationals in the sixth inning. Prior to exiting, Tovar had a solo home run and a double in two at-bats. The club confirmed that Tovar sustained a left wrist strain. Tovar was […]
Holding first place in the AL West apparently wasn't enough for Houston to avoid a major shakeup at the top, and fans are right to be nervous about where Jim Crane goes from here.
August hasn’t been kind to the Colorado Rockies. A dreadful 0-6 homestand against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Cleveland Guardians pushed their home losing streak up to nine games, tied for the longest home drought since the 1993 club accomplished that feat. It also puts the Rockies at 7-13 for August, on pace for their […]
The Nationals are getting dangerously close to the basement of the National League East, as a 3-game sweep at the hands of Miami now has them 10 games below .500 and just 1.5 games above the last place New York Mets. Their month of August has been simply abysmal, with hopes for a playoff berth […]
For most of Jacob Young’s time as the Nats starting center fielder, it was assumed that he was destined to be replaced. Young was a 7th round pick and not a very highly touted prospect. With top prospects like Robert Hassell and Dylan Crews coming, Young was just keeping the seat warm until the big […]
Washington Nationals center fielder Jacob Young made an incredible catch on Sunday, scaling the wall to deny the Miami Marlins' Heriberto Hernández a home run.
One of the great questions for the Nats going into the season was "what the hell are they going to do at catcher?" Keibert Ruiz had been terrible for several years and the pipeline for catcher was as weak as any position for the Nats, with newly acquired Harry Ford being the next hope that was unlikely to pay off. But something funny happened this year. Keibert got good (well at the plate) and the pipeline started filling up. On Keibert, arguably this version looks a LOT like what ...
Just a few months back in March, San Diego Padres’ Jackson Merrill had a highlight performance against the Detroit Tigers, as he leaped at the wall in deep center field to rob Kevin McGonigle of a 403-foot would-be home run. Then, it became a casual defensive play for him, recording 4 such moves. But on […]

This Nationals team is in complete free fall. There is no other way to put it. However, they need to start picking up some wins or else the beginning of the season will be completely forgotten. Today, they will look to avoid yet another divisional sweep in Miami. The Nats lineup is honestly a shame […]
Saturday night’s content between the Nationals and the Miami Marlins was, by just about all accounts, a very forgettable night of baseball. Starter Jake Irvin tossed an up-and-down 6.0 innings of 4-run ball, and the Nats only put up 2 runs en route to a 4-2 loss to drop 9 games below .500. However, one […]
The Washington Nationals added bullpen depth, claiming right-hander Matt Waldron off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. In the corresponding move, left-hander Connelly Early was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL, a shift that doesn't affect his recovery timeline since he wasn't expected back before the end of August anyway. Waldron becomes the Nationals' third organization of the season, a whirlwind stretch even by journeyman standards.
A Month Of Constant Move...
After DFAing multiple former All-Star pitchers during the month of August, the Washington Nationals have added to their pitching staff by claiming former Toronto Blue Jays knuckleball pitcher Matt Waldron off waivers. Nationals reporter Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports that Washington claimed Waldron off waivers. To make room, the Nationals placed pitching prospect Connelly […]

The Nationals announced that right-hander Matt Waldron was claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays. Connelly Early was moved from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL in the corresponding roster move. It’s the second time in under a month that Waldron has changed teams via the waiver wire. The Padres designated the knuckleballer […]
With injuries and trades, this Nats offense is a shell of its former self. We saw that in the Rangers series where they were shut out twice. However, baseball waits for nobody and the Nats need to keep chugging along. They will look to improve their woeful divisional record against the Marlins. With the injuries, […]
The Nationals wrapped up a frustrating series in Texas with a 2-0 loss Thursday night, managing just one hit against Jacob deGrom and three Rangers relievers. DeGrom struck out 10 over six innings and recorded his 2,000th career strikeout, while Brady House collected the Nats’ only hit. Andrew Alvarez allowed one run over five innings, […]
Seaver King is not knocking on the door of the big leagues, he is banging down the door. King is on the type of heater that should be impossible for Paul Toboni to ignore. At this point, there are no baseball related reasons for Seaver King to be in Rochester. In King’s last 11 games, […]
Heading into the season, Daylen Lile was one of the players I was most excited to see. He was coming off a stellar rookie season that was capped off by winning NL Player of the Month in September. However, he has been unable to recapture that magic for most of this season and last night’s […]
ARLINGTON, Texas — Jacob deGrom reached 2,000 career strikeouts on Thursday night, and the Texas Rangers beat the Washington Nationals 2-0 to move back into a tie for the final American League wild card spot. Texas is 63-65 with 34 games left. Showing up the same way every day is what deGrom said the Rangers […]
