Mets Morning News: Manaea takes the mound, Peralta seeks 7-8 years

Meet the Mets Sean Manaea made his spring training debut for the Mets and pitched three innings in yesterday’s 2-0 loss to the Marlins. Manaea’s velocity appeared to be down a bit, but he nevertheless expressed confidence coming out of his outing. Freddy Peralta has reiterated his desire for a potential extension to be a […]

Marlins 2, Mets 0: Sean Manaea makes spring debut in loss to Miami

Sean Manaea finally made his spring debut against the Marlins. He was solid in his three innings of work but the offense was stymied by Marlins pitching. Next up Kodai Senga will make his first appearance this spring against the Cardinals in Jupiter, Florida. Game action kicks off at 1:05pm.

2026 MLB Team Preview Series: Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins are somewhat like cicadas. Every couple years, they emerge and make the playoffs, only to then immediately go back underground for a while. Unfortunately, the Yankees caught one of the worst years of that cicada infestation in 2003. Recently, the Marlins made the playoffs in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, and then somewhat […]

National League East 2026 Preview

Despite a dramatic midseason battle for first, the NL East was fairly clear cut for most of last season.  At the end of May, the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets were tied in a dead-heat, and the Miami Marlins, Atlanta Braves, and Washington Nationals had all started a downward trend out of contention. By […]

The potential impact of dugout pitch calling

For the final nine games of the 2025, the Miami Marlins ran an experiment in which their assistant pitching coach, Alon Leichman, made pitch selection decisions and communicated those to the catcher via signs from the dugout. This is a practice that has long been used in the college game but has never seen widespread […]

St. Louis Cardinals Game Recap – 2.28.26 – Cardinals at Marlins

Recap disclaimer – this may be more a random observations list than a specific blow-by-blow of the game. Spring training results are unimportant, right? It’s the process, after all. Game Summary With the weather starting out hot and humid, and turning soggy, the St. Louis Cardinals bang out 10 runs on 18 hits, Prieto, Crooks, […]

Here are the lineups for the split squad game you can watch. For the Phillies: For the Marlins: And, if you’re interested, here is who is on the road. Let’s talk about it.

2026 Cubs: Know your enemy, NL East

The NL East could have several strong teams this year. The Phillies appear to be in win-now mode. The Mets have made major changes. The Braves should recover from a down year in 2025. Even the Marlins could make some noise. The Nationals? Well, they are here. Atlanta Braves Key departures: Jarred Kelenic, Marcell Ozuna, […]

Quick Recap: Jays Lose to Marlins

Marlins 8 Blue Jays 7 When I had to leave the Blue Jays had this one well in hand, but they gave up 4 runs in the 8th and 2 more in the 9th and lost. Pitchers: Hitters, Starters: Others: The Jays are now 1 and 4 this spring. It doesn’t look like they going […]

Spring Game #6 GameThread and Jays Notes

The Jays and Marlins play in Dunedin at 1:00 Eastern today. We have a bunch of regulars in the lineup. It actually could be close to the lineup they would put out against a lefty starter. And Kevin Gausman gets his first time out there this spring. Gausman set a personal record for innings pitched […]

Astros vs. Marlins 2/25/2026 Spring Training Game Thread

RHP Hunter Brown, who was announced by Joe Espada as the Astros Opening Day starter, will make his Spring debut today. In 2025, Brown established himself as one of the top starters in the Majors, going 12-9 in 31 starts with a 2.43 ERA with 206 strikeouts in 185.1 innings of work. Among AL starters, […]

When did you become a true Rays fan, and why?

Was it as simple as you were living nearby? I grew up on the Space Coast, just 2 hours away from Tampa and seemingly 3 from St. Petersburg, in a family that stayed loyal to the Braves over the Marlins over the years — but I was the perfect age to become a Rays fan, […]

Grapefruit Juice: Marlins 2, Mets 1

The Marlins defeated the Mets 2-1 in the opening game of Grapefruit League play. The Mets were no-hit in the contest until the fifth and threatened late, but were unable to pull out the late-inning comeback. The Mets will play their crosstown rival Yankees in Tampa tomorrow at 1:05pm ET.

Comparing the Cardinals: Can the rotation be worse than last year?

The St. Louis Cardinals have arrived in Jupiter and the reports about players being in the best shapes of their lives has begun! The newly renovated and almost finished Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is hosting the Cardinals and Miami Marlins for the next six weeks as most of us wait for the days to get […]

Orioles news: Chris Bassitt arrives, Trevor Rogers pitches

Hello, friends. There are now 39 days remaining until Orioles Opening Day. It’s only one day more until all position players are required to report to camp, and on Friday, the Grapefruit League schedule will begin for the O’s. We have made it to the week that has something resembling Major League Baseball, even if […]

2026 Chicago Cubs player profiles: Edward Cabrera

Today we look at the Cubs’ newest rotation member, a flamethrowing righty acquired by trade from the Miami Marlins with tremendous upside. Edward Cabrera is 6’5”, 217 lbs. That’s a tall skinny drink of water with a buggy whip for an arm. He throws as hard as anyone when he’s on the mound. But he […]

Jays Trade Joey Loperfido for Jesús Sánchez

So this I didn’t expect. The Jays traded 26-year-old left-handed hitting, outfielder Joey Loperfido to the Astros for 28-year-old, left-handed hitting Jesús Sánchez. Sánchez has played six seasons in the MLB, 580 games, for the Marlins and, last year, the Astros, hitting .239/.307/.420 with 73 home runs. Last year, he hit .199/.269/.342 with 4 home […]

MLB Rumors: Marcell Ozuna and the Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to terms on a one year, $12 million deal, per reports. Ozuna, 35, began his career with the Miami Marlins before being shipped out after a career year in 2017 for a package that included pitching prospects Zac Gallen and Sandy Alcantera. After a couple […]
