Wednesday BP: Best Giants strikeouts of 2025

Good morning, baseball fans! The 2025 World Series doesn’t start until Friday. I know we are all ready to do our part in cheering for the Not-Dodgers, but we’ve still got a couple of days to go. So in the meantime, the San Francisco Giants social media team shared a video on their YouTube channel […]

Stock up, stock down: Community Prospect List Part 2

Yesterday, I started to take stock of some of the highest-ranking San Francisco Giants prospects. I planned to look at how the stock had changed for the top 44 prospects, as determined by our preseason Community Prospect List. I only made it halfway through, then decided it was best to break this into two articles. […]

Stock up, stock down: Community Prospect List Part 1

The 2025 baseball season ended quite a while ago for the San Francisco Giants. Not just for their Major League team, but for their seven Minor League Baseball affiliates as well. With the exception of the seven prospects currently getting a little extra seasoning in the Arizona Fall League, it’s onto the offseason for everyone […]

As the playoffs continue, here are three things we’ll be keeping an eye on around the baseball world throughout the day today: 1. ALCS Game 7 After a resounding win over the Mariners in Game 6 of the ALCS last night, the Blue Jays have managed to force a Game 7 to determine who will…

Monday BP: Will the Giants officially hire Tony Vitello today?

News broke on Saturday that the San Francisco Giants were going outside the box … extremely outside the box … with their managerial search, and intended to hire University of Tennessee coach Tony Vitello. Yet nearly as soon as The Athletic’s Andrew Baggarly, the most trusted voice in Giants reporting, broke the story with a […]

Sunday morning Rangers things

Good morning, folks… We are in the fallow period of Texas Rangers news. In non-Rangers news, the San Francisco Giants are reportedly close to hiring Tony Vitello to be their new manager. The Detroit Tigers are reportedly contemplating dealing Tarik Skubal, who is eligible for free agency after the 2026 season. David Laurila has his […]

Nick Hundley Withdrew From Giants’ Managerial Search

Earlier today, the Giants made waves when it was reported that the club is “closing in on hiring” University of Tennessee coach Tony Vitello as their next manager. While no deal is in place at this point, the news still came as a surprise. That’s not only because Vitello has no experience in professional baseball but…

Giants next manager a college coach?

The San Francisco Giants are “closing in” on hiring as their next manager University of Tennessee coach Tony Vitello, per the Athletic. When word broke that the Giants had fired veteran Bob Melvin after two seasons, the immediate speculation was that president of baseball operations Buster Posey would be looking to hire his former manager, […]

Tony Vitello the next manager?

If Andrew Baggarly isn’t as close to an unimpeachable source when it comes to Giants rumors and breaking or near-breaking news, then no beat writer is. He mentioned Tennessee Volunteers coach Tony Vitello as a possible replacement for Bob Melvin when this whole search began, and just moments ago on The Athletic, he, Brittany Ghiroli, […]

Today in White Sox History: October 15

1917 The White Sox won their second World Series title, beating the New York Giants four games to two. The score in the series clincher was also 4-2. Just two days after finishing the Game 5 win with two innings of relief, Red Faber threw a complete game six-hitter to secure the crown. A hapless […]

Fixing the 2026 Arizona Diamondbacks: Third-base

The hot corner was a solid position for the D-backs this season. All told, it came in at 2.0 bWAR above average, with the Giants and Matt Chapman the only NL team to be more productive there. This was mostly due to Eugenio Suarez continuing his second-half surge from last season. On July 21st, he […]

2025 stats: 4.61 ERA, 4.25 FIP, 1.112 WHIP, 18 K%, 7 BB%, 31 G (1 GS), 56.2 IP In a season of low-leverage appearances, of lumbering through middle-innings in blow-outs, Tristan Beck finally had a chance to pitch with some purpose on September 16th in Arizona.  The Giants sat at .500. They teetered on the […]

How did Red Sox pitching prospect Jose Bello (part of return for Rafael Devers) fare after trade?

After writing about James Tibbs III over the weekend, it feels like an appropriate time to examine how the other prospect the Red Sox acquired from the Giants in the Rafael Devers trade — Jose Bello — fared in the wake of the blockbuster deal being made in June. Unlike Tibbs, Bello was not subsequently … Continue reading "How did Red Sox pitching prospect Jose Bello (part of return for Rafael Devers) fare after trade?"

Oh about Gore

Yeah I was only doing bats. Gore is the only arm that I think deserves talking about in terms of a long-term signing. I like Lord and Ferrer but relief pitching is notoriously fickle, neither of these guys is lights out (or likely to be that) so they just feel very replaceable and not something you gamble money on keeping past age 30.  As arms go Parker and Irvin are nothing to hold on to. I mean I guess if they want to be REAL reasonable and sign for cheap so they don't have to move...&n...

WTF: Rafael Devers Traded To Giants

The Boston Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday in exchange for pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison and a pair of prospects (outfielder James Tibbs III and pitcher Jose Bello). The teams had been discussing a Devers deal for the past few weeks. Devers, in his ninth season with the club, had been the last member of the 2018 World Champions still in a Boston uniform. He's also in the second year of a 10-year, $313.5 million contract. Initial news of the trade st...

2020 Topps Now -- Mookie, Kershaw and More

I am playing catch-up with some recently released Topps Now cards. First, there are two Dodger cards available right now, following their sweep of the Giants yesterday. After that, three additional cards had been released by Topps over the past week -- that I failed to write about -- so I'll share those at the bottom of this post. First, Mookie Betts recorded his 1,000th career hit during the first game of yesterdays doubleheader. Check out the Topps Now card created by Topps above and bel...
