The Montreal Canadiens secure a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs

By virtue of the Detroit Red Wings’ loss to the Minnesota Wild this afternoon, the Montreal Canadiens have clinched a playoff spot, set to head to the post-season for the second consecutive season. With the loss, the Red Wings can now achieve a maximum of 98 points, two fewer than the 100 the Canadiens improved to last night in New Jersey. They were the only team currently outside the playoff picture that had a mathematical possibility to pass Montreal, because the Philadelphia Flyers, wh...

They’ll hope that Taijuan Walker can do better in his second start of the season after a rough outing against the Nationals. He oddly has good career […]

The End Of A Forgettable Era

It became official today: the Buffalo Sabres will break their streak of fourteen seasons without appearing the playoffs thanks to the Pittsburgh Penguins defeating the Florida Panthers, officially eliminating the two-time defending champions from the playoffs. The last time that Buffalo was in the playoffs was 2011 where the Lindy Ruff-led Sabres qualified as the seventh-seeded team and fell in the opening round in seven games to the Philadelphia Flyers. They won't see the Flyers this year,...

Go tell it on the mountain: Phillies 2, Rockies 1

The Philadelphia Phillies (5-3) grew their early season win streak to four games as they came out on the right side of a rare pitchers’ duel in Denver, defeating the Colorado Rockies (2-6) by a score of 2-1 on Saturday night. Jesus Luzardo bounced back from his rough first start with a 6.2 IP 11 […]

Eagles Mailbag: Would they draft a quarterback on Day 2?

Another Eagles mailbag is here! Thanks to our loyal BGN readers for shooting some questions my way over in The Feed. I also had mailbags published on Tuesday and Thursday this week, so be sure to give those a read as well. Anyway, let’s get on with it… Jarvin Driftwood: What do you think the […]

Cristopher Sanchez: bright spot for the Phillies

The first week of the season was somewhat miserable for corners of the fanbase. It didn’t help that they didn’t win their opening series against the Rangers, losing it in quite bizarre fashion. Outside of a furious comeback against the Nationals on Wednesday afternoon, they almost lost the series to them as well, meaning people […]

Flyers’ Matvei Michkov made the most of what he was given to silence critics

It has not been a great sophomore season for Matvei Michkov — it’s undeniable at this point. But as the Philadelphia Flyers continue to push hard to stay and finish on top of the playoff race, the 21-year-old full of boundless potential that has had some growing pains came up big in the most important game of the Flyers’ season. On Friday night, with anyone with any inkling of what is going on in the Eastern Conference race, had all their attention drawn to the New York Islanders hosting ...

When do you consider lineup changes?

Friday’s 10-1 blowout of the Rockies was the perfect salve for a lineup that was struggling. Granted, they were not facing a pitching staff that would be considered one of the better ones in the game, but it’s not as though they were facing monsters on the mound in Philadelphia. Several Phillies left town for […]

Game Day Updates: Red Wings at Rangers

One down. With a fanbase collectively pleading for signs of a pulse, the Red Wings mostly delivered in Thursday’s victory over the Flyers. It wasn’t a perfect effort, but they started on time, they played physical, they put the game away late. We’ll take it, gladly. The reward? Even higher stakes. Detroit is now tied for the second Wild Card position, with Ottawa holding the tiebreaker by virtue of more regulation wins. The Senators’ win on Thursday was about the only blemish in...

Phillies news: Zack Wheeler, Andrew Painter, Cade Horton

It seems that Zack Wheeler got roughed up a bit last night in his rehab start with Lehigh Valley. It’s probably mostly important to remember that he had major surgery and we aren’t sure what version of Wheeler will be returning soon. It’s also important to remember that this is his spring training, so peaks/valleys […]

Flyers 4, Islanders 1: We’re not gonna make it

No, we’re not gonna make it… The New York Islanders made the Eastern Conference playoff race that much more interesting by losing their third straight regulation game to the Philadelphia Flyers, allowing the visitors to pull into a four-way tie of teams with 88 points. The Islanders were outshot 12-2 and outscored 2-0 in the […]

Takeaways: Flyers weather storm, come away with 4-1 win over Islanders

The Flyers closed out their back-to-back on the road on Long Island, facing off against the Islanders in a must-win game to keep their playoff push alive. It wasn’t a perfect showing, but the Flyers came up with a largely commanding effort, and came away with a hard-fought win to put themselves within reach of a playoff spot. The basics First period: 13:54- Owen Tippett (Sanheim), 15:01- Alex Bump (Michkov, Cates) Second period: 2:52- Matvei Michkov (unassisted), 15:37- Jean-Gabriel ...

Phillies 10, Rockies 1: Rox offense MIA on Opening Day

Today was not the party the Rockies or their fans were hoping for.  For a moment, it felt like it might be possible. A perfect afternoon, a packed house, and Hunter Goodman receiving his Silver Slugger before first-pitch set an optimistic tone.  Then the first inning happened.  Michael Lorenzen never settled in. Trea Turner led off with a double, walks […]

The friendly confines: Phillies 10, Rockies 1

Colorado Rockies fans assuredly did not have high expectations for the 2026 season. The team lost 119 games in 2025, and they didn’t seem to significantly upgrade the roster in the offseason. So, when the fans sat down to watch their home opener against the Phillies on Friday afternoon, it’s not like most of them […]
